Magic Box

La Capsa Màgica is a space in Fundació “la Caixa” in Barcelona, turned into an exhibition room in 1994 by the Institut de Recerca per l’Ensenyament de la Filosofia (IREF), where two exhibitions were presented: La màgia de la ciutat i La màgia de la capsa.

The Magic of the City

Organized by the IREF and presented in Barcelona in 1994 in a new exhibition space of the Fundació “la Caixa” which took La Capsa Màgica (The Magical Box) as its name.

La màgia de la ciutat (The Magic of the City) is the name of a contemporary art exhibition that brings together works by Jorge Oteiza, Sergi Aguilar, Xano Armenter, Miguel Ángel Campano, Rafel Joan, Miquel Navarro, Perejaume and Juan Urrios. The exhibition plays on the potential metaphors of cities and boxes, highlighting the singularity of exhibition galleries as meeting places for the arts. The education programme includes a comprehensive range of documentation and workshops.

The Magic of the Box

La màgia de la capsa is the name of an education project that came out of La màgia de la ciutat, culminating in a new exhibition that displays the cardboard boxes that were offered to visitors to La Capsa Màgica at the end of their visit when they had been transformed into worlds of their own. The boxes created by the artists are exhibited around the edge of a space that is now given over to the works of the visitors –students of all ages and the general public.
